MetrO League 2 - Western Sydney Parklands

After the week of what could best be described as "interesting weather" it was great to be out on an orienteering map.
The only concern on arriving at the event was that we were assembling high on a hill which had views extending to the city. If you start up on a hill it is logical to assume that you will go down on your course somewhere and yes you guessed it somewhere you go up! Indeed the up towards the end of the course was indeed seriously up. The views from the top were rather special.

Enough said on the hills. Metro 2 was the first for Division 1 to use a cross country scoring mechanism where the fastest on the course gets 1 pt ( Toby Wilson ) 2nd 2 pts (Andrew Brown). Ian Jones was 10th fastest thus scored 10pts. So when working out the winning team in each challenge it is the team with the lowest score wins. Now instead of head to head contests that Divisions 2,3,4,& 5 have Division 1 has everyone against everyone challenge. So Big Foot was 1st with 35 points (remember the lower score the better) Garingal 2nd on 62, Uringa 3rd with 76, Western and Hills 4th with 80 and Bennelong Northside 5th on 98 points.
Uringa fielded 7 runners in a 5 runner competition- how does that work? Only the top 5 finishers are included in the result
The point score is at: http://onsw.asn.au/images/stories/story_pdfs/Round1Scores.pdf

The Kites (Div 3) had a strong win over Big Foot 31/24  {Linda and Jim were 3rd and 4th fastest on the course.} Division 4 team , the Falcons also notched up a win over Big Foot/Knox 27/25. The Kestrals (Div 5) had a strong win over Garingal 35/20
A fantastic effort 3 wins out of a possible 3.
