2020 NSW Sprint Championships - an event to remember

March 2020 will be remembered as the time when Australia realised the Covid-19 pandemic was something serious. Orienteering events were being cancelled right and left. The NSW Sprint Championships (also State League 1) were being held in Sydney at Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany.

Would Uringa be running an event, or not?
Prize winner's award (thank to Linda Sesta for arranging for these to be supplied)

The answer was Yes, under guidelines for social distancing, bring your own hand sanitiser and water, no results boards and no presentation ceremony. That didn't put many off. The day was mild and sunny, the roll up good.

Best efforts were made to keep our distance...

Results were made available only online. What people were looking at on their hand-held devices remains private.

February meant the Annual General Meeting, along with a run, a general meeting and a sausage sizzle

As an incorporated body, Uringa needs some formal activities such as its Annual General Meeting. As a sporting and social body, what's wanted is some orienteering (a map-memory course set by Matt Peters at the 2020 AGM) and a lot of socialising. Everyone had a good time and we got a lot done, too.

Uringa Orienteers Incorporated held its Annual General Meeting in February.
·         Annual Report
·         AGM Minutes

Following the AGM a short General Meeting discussed roles and responsibilities for events and general running of the club.

2019 River Orienteering Series & Bay Orienteering Series

It's late to be report on this, and thanking everyone for the effort they put it...but never too late!

2019 saw a joint effort with Illawarra-Kareelah to promote orienteering along the Cooks River (ROS) and along Botany Bay (BOS). BOS offered four events and ROS five. There was overall coordination and management together.

The coordinating group got together last month to reflect on how it went. Some of the positives included the opportunity for some members to try out course setting, develop more skills in working with the event technology side of things, and, of course, meet new people. We learned a lot, got some new ideas, and started planning for 2020.

For Uringa the RBOS was about having a run, yes, but also welcoming new orienteers.

There were prizes for best-dressed in the Christmas spirit.

Uringa again supported the Zonta Club of Sydney Breakfast in a Christmas cake raffle to raise funds for its Birthing Kits and Breastcare Cushions projects.

And the end of the series was celebrated in great fellowship at the Concordia Club at Tempe after the last event at Gough Whitlam Park was packed up.
