Snowy Greetings

It's been a while since we left Sydney in search of a cold winter. And we really enjoyed Xmas and Feb holidays in the mountains with downhill and cross-country skiing. But now we start to miss the sun again ....

Our orienteering club (OLV Lucerne) will host the third leg of the tour-o-swiss just a few km away from our home! And while checking the list of registered participants we where very excited to find the names of at least 7 uringa orienteers. There may even be more as the closing date for registration is still up-coming. We are really looking forward to meet the uringa squad in switzerland. Even with a tight TOS schedule we hope to find some time to fire up our aussie BBQ.

By the way: The 4th and 5th leg of the TOS will be at the same place where we took the picture. It's a beautiful area in summer and winter up in the mountains.

Best regards,
Boos Family

URINGA AGM

The 2010 AGM hosted by the McKenna's at Breakfast point saw little change in club officers with all 2009 office bearers being returned for 2010 with only one change in the delegates to OANSW.
President Ron Pallas
VicePresident Margaret Wilmott
Secretary Mary Jane Mahony
Treasurer Arthur Durham
Blogmaster Rick Steele
Social Secretary Gayle Shepherd
Events Officer Nick Wilmott
Equipment Officers Matt Peters, Ron Pallas and Nick Wilmott
Club Captain Dave McKenna
Training Co-ordinator Nick Wilmott
Mapping Officer Dave Lotty
Medical Officer Lisa Lampe
Delegates to OANSW Ron Pallas, Dave McKenna

There was much discussion at the meeting on the following points:
Events in 2011 - It was thought that it is important that our major event planners / controllers and organisers be able to have a one year on one year off rotation. In saying this we really need to encourage people to take on these tasks. It was felt that the best way to do this is to offer a mentoring scheme where for example the planner for a major event in 2010 mentors a member who is interested in planning an event in the future. In that way the new person gains insight and understanding of just what the job entails and begins to learn skills in that job. A survey to members will be sent out in a few weeks time.
There are 4 main areas for each major event:
course planning
course controlling (checking the work of the planner)
event organisation
sportident event management
New Members - it was agreed we need to ensure that we contact and involve new members in our club.
Ideas - there were some ideas that the executive will frame to be put to OANSW about membership and recruitment. Stay tuned as Mary Jane, Margaret and I write these up.

And then there was the social side and over a great supper ( thanks to all) there was much chat about a variety of topics. A number of members were discussing trips various overseas orienteering events.
Keith and Rick were a font of knowledge on cooking having begun a cooking course recently.

A good night was had by all.

For those who are regular travelling orienteers I received a great email from Hugh Moore (ACT). Hugh was poleaxed by a life threatening disease last year which left in in intensive care for a long time. News of his recovery has been circulating for some time. He is entered for the Clandulla events although he says that he will be walking. He is back to doing short runs but in very safe and secure areas such as parks where the risk of tripping etc is very minimal. Throughout his ordeal he has been very positive. It will be great to see Hugh at Clandulla.

Lemon Cake recipe

Taste testing of this lemon cake took place at the Callan Park Sprint Series! So here is the recipe by popular demand:

250g butter
250g sugar
5 eggs
grated skin of 2 lemons
250g flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 pinch of salt

Beat butter until smooth.
Add sugar and eggs in turn, beat well.
Add grated lemon skin.
Mix flour, baking powder and salt into cake mix and fill it into a greased cake form
(28-30cm long) .

Bake: in the middle of the preheated oven (fan forced) at about 160C for 50-60 minutes. Leave cake in the form until it has cooled down. Puncture holes into cake with a skewer and pour following juice over the holes and onto cake.

100ml lemon juice (about 3-4 lemons)
100g icing sugar

Make sure you get all of this juice into the cake and it will turn out nice and moist.

(you might have figuered out that this recipe has been translated from German into English; so apologies for any weird descriptions)

2009 Xmas 5 Days

Well it wasn't the biggest Uringa Contingent ever but what the heck it was Christmas after all.

The 5 days was based around Mittagong. Only the second day was affected by the weather with rain and drizzle being standard for that day. the rest were pretty good for orienteering.

Dick Ogilvie was the overall coordinator of the event with Maureen his trusty side kick.

Now to results

The President's Cup - Honour Board

The President's Cup is now part of orienteering folklore. Remarkably Jitka has prepared the winning cup(s) since the outset more than 22 years ago (is that right Jitka?).

The first event was won by Michael Anderson on Belanglo in our nation's bicentenary year.

Terry has provided me a pretty full list, but I'm worried we don't have a full list of past winners and time is marching on.

So, I'm seeking to populate the following table with past winners of the Uringa President's Cup. So we can keep it for posterity ... or at least until google disappears. If anyone can help fill in the missing pieces of history, please let me know. This should be a test of our failing memories. Does anyone have old copies of the newsletters we used to publish? Or mugs in the pool room.

So here we go ...
