QBIII is NSW’s annual winter three-day event held over the Queen’s Birthday Weekend in June. It includes two bush events and a sprint. This year the WaggaRoos (Wagga & Riverina Occasional Orienteers) coordinated the event with the Stingers oreganising Day1, OACT Day 2, and the WaggaRoos Day 3. There were also helpers from other clubs, notably our technical guru Ron Pallas.
QBIII importantly offers time to relax, explore and socialise. Uringans met at the Riverina Hotel for a shared meal (as usual) with one another and other orienteering friends, a great opportunity to debrief course experiences and to catch up. Thanks to Uringa Social Secretary Gayle Shepherd for organising this.
QBIII always offers challenges. This year the two events in
the Murraguldrie State Forest offered technical rock as well as some steel hillsides.
The Charles Sturt University campus is a maze of buildings and features perfect
for a sprint course. Then there was the winter cold (single digits).
Completing all three events is necessary to be in
competition for the QBIII podium – badges to those finishing 1, 2 and 3. Those
listed below managed to finish, to find and punch all the correct controls, and
to do it for all three days. (The long drive home to Sydney did lead to some
choosing not to compete on Day 3, and others not staying for the presentations.)
