Metro League #2- St Ives.

The last time we orienteered at the St Ives Showground was the 2021 Big Foot Sprints. The weather was far from suitable for orienteering – hot hot hot!

Well, the weather for Metro League 2 was just right. Cool but sunny. The courses were well set with the longer courses getting into the trickier areas mind you the green made navigation a chore.

It was not the best of weekends for the Uringa- central Coast teams as we scored 0 from 3 matches. Division 1 went down 29/20 to Western and Hills. The team didn’t do down without a fight with Ant and Shane scoring 8 and 7 points respectively. Michael and Ant in their postmortems centred their discussions on controls 17,18,19. Ant initially missed 18 heading for 19 before returning to collect 18. Michael did the same however unlike Ant did not realise he had missed 18 until later. Zoe, had a long run missing the last controls as the courses were closing.

Division 3 also had a loss in their match with Garingal. The team was some what undermanned having only 3 runners. It was made worse when Curtis sustained a nasty ankle injury within 100 metres of the start. Curtis damaged a ligament or two and has started rehab. Ori was in fine form with a 9 pointer and Jim was right behind scoring 8.

Division 5 were valiant in defeat in their match against Western and Hills. The final score was 32/23. Gayle, 8 points and Paul 6 were the best of the team.

Looking at individual results:

Division 1- Ant 10th, Shane 12th, Serena 15th, Ian 20th

Division 3- Ori 6th, Jim 11th

Division 5- Gayle 9th, Ron 10th, Paul 15th, Peter 17th, Jane 21st, Dave 29th

Port Macquarie here we come!

A neat dozen Uringans are heading to Port Macquarie over the weekend of 9/10 July. This will be the very first State League events run by the local club HOGS ( Hastings Orienteering) Supported by Newcastle Orienteers the double header will see a sprint around a local college on Saturday and then Sunday the venue moves the Broken Bago State Forest, near Wauchope.

This should be an enjoyable weekend.
