So here is
the story! 3 events to be run in 3 different venues over the weekend. Not too bad but 2 of the events were to be
held within 4 hours of each other.
The call
was out- man the pumps, roll up the sleeves, step up to the mark. What can I
say the “boys stuck to the game plan” and the weekend went off with nary a
hitch.
The NSW
Schools Champs and The NSW Sprint Champs were held on Saturday at two
locations. Sprint 1 was at Garrison Point with interesting courses set by Ian
Jones. Ian aided by Maggie, Ant and Dave had all controls out, checked and ready
to go as the punters arrived for the 10.30 kick off.
Supported
by a number of experienced orienteers who undertook map walks, guided less
experienced school kids the event went off tremendously. Needless to say the
beautiful parklands and the clear sky made sure that everyone was in a good
mood.
( Note to
OCAD users- do not include JPEGs etc into OCAD maps as it affects the print of the map badly! All images need to be
drawn in in OCAD)
As the last
finisher hit the download, the Uringa machine clicked into action as the myriad
amount of gear disappeared into a variety of boots to be transported to Western
Sydney University at Milperra. (Just down the road)
On auto
pilot the gear was removed from boots and the event was ready to go with an
hour to spare. Way to go Uringa!
Matt Peters
set the courses and with Nick Wilmott had the controls out ready to go before
first starts.
Once more
all ran very well. The Uni Campus was challenge with routes choices testing the
competitors.
At the end
of the day awards were presented to the NSW School Sprint Champions and also to
the NSW Sprint Champions.
Well done
to Finn 1st in M14A; Sophie and Serena W14a 1 and 2nd
respectively and Georgia 1st in W17+A. For their excellent efforts
in the NSW Schools Champs. Maggie helped dad put out controls for Sunday and
missed her run at WSU.
Also
picking up gongs in the NSW Sprint Championships were Linda, Shane and Maureen
1st place; Dick 2nd and Margaret 3rd.

Well that
was Saturday put to bed and gear once again disappeared into boots to return on
Sunday to Boggabilla- Lansvale. This map was used up until the early 2000s. The
area is a little thicker than it once was.
Jim Mackay
did a fine job setting the courses and there were many positive comments at the
finish tent.
Today was
the NSW Schools Long Champs as well as State League 10.
Sophie and
Georgia were "sister act", 1st place getters (Fittingly it was
Sophie’s birthday!). Maggie Mackay and Serena Doyle were joined by Jonathan
Nolan to place 2nd and Finn was 3rd.
In the
non-schools section Shane, Maureen, Jane and Catherine Murphy were 1st
in their classes, Linda and Dick 2nd and Maggie 3rd.

And so it
was that this event drew to a close. Many eager hands rounded up the controls
and soon cars were packed and Bogabilla returned to its quiet self.
This
weekend could not have happened with the efforts of Ian, Matt and Jim as course
setters; Dave and Nick as controllers. Then there was the work crew all
pitching in.
I must
mention Adrienne and John who specially came to help out on Saturday. Zuzu and Jitka
who came along on Sunday to help out.
A huge
thank you to Vicki Wilmott, not a member of Uringa, who turned up on both days
to help us out. Without Vicki the result tent would have been well and truly undermanned.
What is
next:
Metro Finals
are next weekend. We will need around 25 runners. Right now we have 4.
Please pre-enter at:
Then the
weekend of 10/11 September is State League 11/12 and you can pre-enter at :
Also coming
up are the Australian Championships in Queensland. A number of Urinagns are heading north. We
wish them well.
