Every thing Old is new Again- Broulee 2021

Covid certainly put paid to many large orienteering events in 2020. Broulee Dunes event was one of them. Fortunately the events were put on ice, thawed and served up again in 2021.

Now orienteering has not ventured far from the Wollongong area so Broulee, near Moruya was quite a change. The south coast has so many beautiful beaches and it was certainly a delight to travel south out of the big smoke. There were many who took advantage of the area and spent a few extra days exploring the region.

The dunes themselves were small but very tricky and in places the vegetation ( green) hid the subtle contour details leaving many scratching their heads. Saturday for many was a steep learning curve and Sunday a chance to put that learning into practice.

Both days were held on the same map and some clever course setting led you through areas that you may have visited Saturday  but on Sunday  you came through it at a  different angle.

Result wise Uringans managed to step up onto the podium with Maureen leading the way finishing 1st both days, Gayle with a 1st and 2nd ( missed 1st on day 2 by a mere 27 seconds - if only I!!!!). Linda had a 2nd and 3rd and Melanie managed a 3rd on Sunday.

Unfortunately I could not find Serena's result on Sunday - Whoops they ran a relay!

It is when you go to a big event that you realise what you have been missing. Catching up with friends from near and far is an added bonus.

Former Uringa members, Nick and Margaret Wilmott - now in Goldseekers ran in Uringa shirts to honour their many years in our club.

The next big event is the Queens Birthday 3 days which is being held on the western side of Lake Macquarie June 12-14. Information can be found Here   and  Enter
