Run in the grounds of Parramatta Hospital now Cumberland and Westmead Children's) The myriad of buildings made life interesting and the flat terrain made life fast. So much so that the Open men winners= ran the full 600 points in a tick over 35 minutes.
Now orienteering became a true blood sport when Janet Morris (Western and Hills) had a slight altercation with the power box attached to the light pole at control 3. Despite blood cascading from the wound Janet picked herself up and ran off to the finish and took no assistance until she punched the finish. Fortunately Dr Ian Cameron was on hand to take care of the wounded warrior. It was Janet's birthday and I am sure she will remember the many stitches required to close the wound.
Any way enough blood. There were some good results from Uringans with Catherine Murphy almost taking all 600 points in finishing 2nd in Open Women being the highlight.
