Callan Park Event in Pictures

It might have been a wet and overcast day, but the park was still beautiful.

Rain meant no cricket. No cricket meant a comfortable sheltered assembly area for the socialising as well as the sprint registration and finish.

...and more socialising.

If you ran hard to the finish and couldn't stop you might have ended up in the bay. Nice to have a very visible finish though,.

Callan Park Sprint Event, Sunday 16th February, 2014

The rain had stopped, the ground was soft, the grass was green and the birds were singing for the late afternoon start for this event.  As usual, many Uringans attended to assist with over 80 keen orienteers who entered the event. Many compliments for Matt who was the Course Setter and many were bemused, but very accepting of, the new computer-based self-directed method of registration, devised by Ron, which was 100% accurate! Maureen provided a cake at just the right time and the Jones family helped with collection of controls at the end of the event, so it was a wrap by 8.15 pm. Competition was keen with some excellent times recorded.
Up and coming junior Aidan Dawson showed a clean pair of heels to the rest of the field winning by almost a minute when he finished in 16.52.  The first Uringan home was Lawrence Jones in 20.01 (6th) and right behind with only a gap of 3 seconds was Ian Jones in 8th place. Catherin Murphy chipped with a fine top ten finish.

(Thanks Penny for your report!)

Canberra Sprints 23-27th January

A small number of Uringans took part in the Canberra Sprints. Dave dropped in for Days 1 & 2, Dick, Maureen, Gayle and Linda clocked on for Days 4 & 5. Ian McKenzie, returning from injury was the only 5 days runner and even though he was running ( well jogging, quick walking) his times were not too bad at all.
It is rumoured that this event in some form or other will be held again in 2015- keep a look out for it.
Dick in full flight

Gayle, heading for the finish

Georgia also heading to the finish on Day 5

The presentation gained most people's attention although Maureen was checking out the nearest coffee shop location.

Ian competed in Men Elite for the 5 days.

Sir Galahad Lawrence fresh from carrying mum up and down the Snowy Mountains

Linda heading in to the finish wondering where her enemy  and fellow Swiss runner Anita was- in front or behind?

Maggie zooms in to the finish- fresh legs after Lawrence did all the work in the Snowys!

Maureen looking forward to the finish and coffee.

Who says I cannot multi-task. looking after both the finish and Lewie

Balmain/Birchgrove a highlight of Uringa's summer season (yet again)

'Skinny Latte 4.0' was the map, Matt Peters the mapmaker and test runner, and Brian Cleland the course setter and organiser. The Uringa helpers were out in full force.

Location. Location. Location. If you go to only one Uringa summer event, this is the one to choose.  If you participated, these were some of the places you would go and sights you would see.

Carss Park a hidden beauty

Well, the beauty as well as the runners might have been pictured here, but the camera went dead on the way out to the first cluster of controls.
