There's snow in them there hills!

It was quite a battle with the blankets on Sunday morning knowing that the Metro was at Lapstone at the foothills of the Blue Mountains. The video of snow falling on the mountains filled one with chills.
That said a number of Uringans made the drive and enjoyed a reasonably warm morning. Fortunately the assembly area was bathed in sunlight and little wind so there was many a rosy cheek on the little children.
"Darks Common" is a tricky little map with lots of tracks making fine navigation a real test. ( I failed badly and would be a perfect subject for Australia's Funniest Home Videos) The Western side of the map had been burnt out and was delightful as the rock if far more readable when the vegetation is not there.

So how did we go-
Division 1 had a very rare win over the competition leaders Big Foot. Mind you we were helped by the addition of Jo Allison, Dave Shepherd and Lorenzo Colabro all current or former Elite Aussie Reps! ( Quite a recruiting coup!). Along with Ondrej and Anthony, BF did not stand a chance.

Division 3 were defeated by the SHOO/Illawarra joint venture  Linda and Finn ran very well to record top 10 overall placings.

Division 4 had their tails whipped by SHOO/Illawarra. With the jobbling Dave leading the team home.

Division 5 - well we were short of runners and so had to forfeit..

The next Metro is on 31st July at Mulgoa.

It is a farewell to Angela Murray as she is moving to Lennox Head in the coming weeks.

Winter Social - Italian Night!

What a Saturday. First there was Duncan Currie/Garingal's UltraSprint at Pioneer Park in Leichardt (adds to the Italian theme, doesn't it?). Then there was dinner.

Uringa Orienteers has a long tradition of an annual potluck dinner sometime during the winter (date dependent on working around overseas travel plans - so much orienteering and other delights in the northern summer). It's been a curry night for some years. This year it was ITALIAN! (In case you are unable to work it out from the colour scheme, the colours of the Italian flag are red, green and white.)

Not only was there scrumptious food (and, no, pasta did not in any way dominate), but also a guessing contest organised by Social Secretary Gayle. How many rotini do you think are in the jar?

Linda's magic panorama photo.

If you help out in the kitchen at dessert time, there are some bonuses.

Margaret was closest!
And at the end of the evening the table decorations became lucky door prizes.

QBIII on the North Coast - overall

The sun shone. The terrain was very different from one day to the next, and all three events were enjoyable.

Day 1 was middle-distance bush on sanddunes.

Day 2 was long distance in open forest.

Day 3 was a campus sprint.

To gain a QBIII badge you had to compete and finish all three days, for a combined score that put you in the top three. (Unfortunately, a few Uringans did not compete on Monday.)
