Lilyfield Lanes Sydney Summer Series Event

Some lanes, some of them in Lilyfield, but for most participants a comprehensive trip around the ups and downs, ins and outs of Callan Park and the surrounding foreshore was core for the around two hundred sight-seers, adventurers, and the 'I'm getting them all' brigade.

Course setter Matt Peters tested his design by demonstrating it to his granddaughter, including a small beach control possibly just for her benefit

Callan Park's eclectic mixture of buildings, many at skewed angles (and some distractingly interesting architecture), add a dimension of complexity for route planning. The park's history is more than of just a mental hospital and its contemporary life with art college, writers centre and diverse health and social services provision also adds a layer interest.

Scenic Summer Sunday Sprint Starts the Year for Uringa

Mort Bay Dock Sprint was the latest outing in one of the most beautiful orienteering locations in inner Sydney, Balmain.

Course setting by Helen Murphy (in association with Dave Lotty) was full of twists and turns, using the full extent of both Mort Bay Park and Ballast Point Park. Ballast Point Park continues to be one of the most scenic and interesting reuse of a previous industrial site.

The Murphy family was out in force to support set-up and pack-up. In fact, so many Uringa members showed up to help and run that we reckoned we could have a fine competition even if no one else showed up. But they did, with over one hundred runners touring the highlights of the bay and the parks.
