State Leagues 4 & 5 Lithgow- It is cold in them there Hills

No orienteering season would be complete without a cold weekend in Lithgow. In other areas it can be the same temperature but in Lithgow it always seems to be several degrees colder – wind chill.

Oh well rug up or as the Doc says – “Layer upon Layer”

Saturday saw the competition in the Falnash State Forest. Those who have been around will remember a QB111 relay event in June when it snowed… It was actually reasonably pleasant in the foest and the forest was very pleasant. Very open not too steep and great visibility. Ant mounds could be seen from a long way away.
Mind you it helped as unfortunately a control was in the wrong place- whilst this caused a few issues it was funny to see the course planner carrying the control to the correct site. Many orienteers were quite pleased to have the control meet them.

This day saw a number of strong results for Uringa:

W12A Sophie Jones 1st
W14A Georgia Jones 1st
M18A Lawrence Jones 2nd
W35A Danielle Kopriva 3rd
W45A Linda Sesta 2nd
W45A Jane McKenna 3rd
W45A Maggie Jones 4th
M45A Ian Jones 3rd
W45AS Lisa Lampe 2nd
W45AS Gayle Shepherd 4th
M55AS Ron Pallas 3rd
W65A Angela Murray 3rd
M65A Dick Ogilvie 2nd
M65A Dave Lotty 4th
W70A Maureen Ogilvie 3rd

It was great to see Danielle Kopriva back in Uringa colours. After a number of years o/s Danielle is back and her performance in W35A was outstanding.

With eventor the results have some natty features like how far you are in front or behind in your class plus your kilometre rate. Ian jones was the club KM Champion at 8.08min/km. Dick Ogilvie was next fastest at 9.16min/km
As the sun set all too quickly the tribe headed to their accommodation. Many gathered again at “The Workies” in Lithgow for a reasonably priced but good quality dinner with a wine/ale or two tossed in.

Sunday dawned with a reasonably clear sky however there was a little wind which really chilled the bones. Out we went along the Mudgee Road to Baal Bone Junction. This could be the last time we are on this map as a rather large open cut coal mine is making its presence felt . The area has many a pagoda like formation with steep central ridges providing oxygen debt but great views. Most courses started up on the central plateau.

Once again Uringa performed strongly:

W12A Sophie Jones 1st
W14A Georgia Jones 2nd
M18A Lawrence Jones 2nd
W35A Danielle Kopriva dnf
W45A Maggie Jones 2nd
W45A Jane McKenna 3rd
M45A Ian Jones 3rd
W45AS Lisa Lampe 2nd
W45AS Gayle Shepherd 7th
M55AS Ron Pallas 2nd
W65A Angela Murray 3rd
M65A Dick Ogilvie 6th
M65A Dave Lotty 7th
W70A Maureen Ogilvie 3rd

And so we now head south to belanglo State Forest ( just a hop, skip and jump from Mittagong) for State Leages 6, 7& 8 on the June long weekend.
