Uringa @ Dubbo 2

As well as the competition side of the Australian 3 days and area in which Uringa excels – the social side was well attended.
In contrast to JWOC where Uringa was buried in the starts and seldom saw the warm light of day, Uringa was responsible for making sure the results went up.
This proved to be very stress free and Uringans were able to kick back and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the event. On the last day however more workers were needed to complete the slats.
Saturday night saw a huge turn out at the Two Doors restaurant in Dubbo. The warmth of the Dubbo evening made sure that many cleansing ales were consumed by all and sundry. It was indeed a great evening.
Ian and Margaret Jones, Lawrence, Georgia and Sophie, new members of Uringa caught up with the crowd. Ian proved to be very adept at tearing of split prints whilst consuming an ice cream and the kids were fantastic, along with Noel Boos in hanging result slats.
Also on the social side we met up with Sybille’s parents, Hans and Kristina Braun. Hans acquitted himself well in M65A and Kristina tagged along with Corsin on Enter on day courses.
Chris, Anita and Oliver and Annabelle deserted the Red Roos ranks to join up with their former club mates for the weekend. Chris quickly became “Captain Slat” as he directed the juniors in where and how to hang slats!

Monday arvo saw a lightning fast clean up and before you could say “Captain Slat” the trailer was loaded with gear and the journey home commenced.

Dubbo News 2

Well the battle in W35AS at Dubbo will be something to watch. Front runner Jane has set the standard over the past few years. Gayle and Margaret have shown glimpses of form. All 3 will need to be on their toes as Sybille has joined the chocolate class and will certainly make for great competition.

Seriously Uringans - be prepared for grass seeds in your socks, jocks and shoes. The grass has benefitted from a fair amount of summer rain and is about knee high. The Nick Wilmott hint is to have several pairs of socks and toss them after each run! The grass is high in parts of the zoo. The leg across the tigers compound is however nice and spongy perfect for sprinting.

Last Easter in Burra a large crowd of Uringas enjoyed a great dinner at a pub in the middle of somewhere. This new tradition of the Easter dinner will continue this year on Saturday night.

Helpers for the Zoo on Friday are asked to be at the zoo from around 10am onwards- yes you can come earlier as there is always work to do.

A work roster for the weekend will be emailed to all on Monday.

Look for the Uringa flag it will be near the Finish Tent. Do not forget the sunscreen and a hat it will be warm.

Uringa at Dubbo

A total of 33 of Uringa's finest orienteers will compete in the Australian 3 day Championships to be held in Dubbo over the Easter break.
As well as competing, Uringa will be running the production and display of results for the 6 events.
All work and no play will make Uringa rather tired so make sure you have signed up for the uringa dinner on Saturday night. Let gayle know if you haven't already.

The Opening Salvo!

At the Annual Meeting tonight at the Peters' house we decided to move with the times and create a blog to replace the Uringa newsletter. So here we have it at www.uringa.blogspot.com.

To read the blog at any time simply type www.uringa.blogspot.com in your computer's browser (eg Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Mozilla's Firefox etc). That's it we now have an on-line newsletter and this is the first story.

I have made myself administrator (my blogger name is hedgeguy) and I can add and remove members, determine the settings and modify the template. But with a little bit of effort in set up, all members can add and edit their own posts or respond to the posts of others. I'm happy if anyone else wishes to be administrator also. Just let me know. particularly if they wish to modify the template to make it more Uringan.

The only requirement to participate is that you have a google account (gmail address). If you go to use the blog to post a story, you will be prompted to set up an account (no charge). You might already have a gmail address. If you don't, can I suggest you use your full name plus a number you will remember such as street address eg johnbrown75@gmail.com. You will also need a password.

To add a post just follow these SIMPLE instructions:
  1. Type www.uringa.blogspot.com in your computer's browser.
  2. At this point you may asked to sign up for a google account
  3. Once you have a google account, click "New Post" on the top menu bar (right hand side)
  4. Give your article (post) a title, then type your story in the box below
  5. There is a simple menu bar that you can use if you wish to set fonts, colours, create url links, add images and video etc. but this is not necessary first up.
Uringa is a member club of the NSW Orienteering Association. See how how I have created a link (using the link tab in the Posting tab) to the Association website. Doing this helps to make our blog more likely to be hit by those searching for stories about Orienteering in NSW. We may choose to limit the blog to members only. Happy to do that if people wish.

I have used an email list that Ron used in last email to members to invite you to view the blog. Please invite others as you see fit. So go on see if you can post a story. We are all editors now!

Later when you get more sophisticated you will be able to set up an RSS feed so you will be emailed whenever a new post or comment appears in the blog. You might even blog from your phone!

Good luck and have fun!

Rick
